October is National Domestic Violence and Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
On Saturday, October 6, 2018, Oak Court Mall will host Purple and Pink Day from 11 am – 1 pm. The purpose of Purple and Pink Day is to remember those who lost the battle, support those in the fight and honor the survivors of domestic violence and breast cancer. This event is open to the community.
With Memphis as one of largest cities in the state, we have witnessed the impact of domestic violence and breast cancer in our community. Memphis has the highest rate of disparities among Black women. Black women in Memphis are more than twice as likely to die from breast cancer as white women. Domestic abuse consists over half of Memphis’ violent crime. In 2017, there were over 50,000 911 calls for domestic violence in Memphis.
Come join us in our effort to promote awareness, advocate and share the various services and resources available in our community for domestic violence and breast cancer. Show your support by wearing purple or pink.
We hope that we can count on your support or participation.
